Potcake Place Unleashes Quiz Night At Saltmills Diner, Turks and Caicos

I found this wonderful article about Potcake Place.  Jane and her crew run a rescue organization for indigenous animals, in particular, our island dogs, called Potcakes.  Each one of these volunteers are angels! The picture below is of a happy and lucky Potcake…many others are not that fortunate.  Please help them if you can…

The Saltmills Diner will be going to the dogs on the first Thursday of every month with a fun quiz night to help raise funds for Turks and Caicos Islands’ potcake dogs.Potcake Place, registered non-profit charity, has teamed up with its neighborhood restaurant, the Saltmills Diner, to run a series of fundraising quiz nights starting April 5 at 7 p.m. Patrons will be asked to team up into groups of six players and compete for a wide range of special prizes which will be given out to the best performing team after every 10 questions. An additional grand prize will go to the overall winning team after the 100th question.Diner owners Jeffrey and Alla Racette will be opening the restaurant’s doors especially for the event and are asking all dog lovers to show their support by participating on a monthly basis. The restaurant will be offering a range of drinks and appetizers to those participating in the fundraising affair.Ticket costs are $10 per person with 100 percent of funds going to dog rescue programs at Potcake Place. For more information or to make reservations, contact Donna Germain at 232 3328 or e-mail CD_Germain@hotmail.com .Potcake is the name given to the dogs of the TCI and Bahamas because the locals fed the yard dogs the caked remains from their cooking pots.Although potcakes are rescued from around the TCI, the islands’ spay/neuter programs are not keeping up, and the feral dog population is growing exponentially with more and more litters of puppies are being found in the wild. There are four ways you can help Potcake Place:

  1. Donate: Every single penny from your donation will go directly into helping rescued puppies get back on their paws and be placed into forever homes.
  2. Adopt: Potcake Place is a local not-for-profit dog rescue organization that aims to find island puppies loving homes. Adoption is easy if you live in the U.S., Canada or on-island. All puppies are provided with veterinary care, vaccination and health certificates. Call us to arrange a “meet and greet” with one of our adorable rescued potcake puppies.
  3. Foster: The rescue is always in desperate need of foster homes on Providenciales for 2-3 weeks. Each foster home is supplied with food, toys and veterinarian care. There is no expense to you.
  4. Courier: Potcake Place is always looking for people to carry pups to their new homes in the U.S. and Canada. The organization will bring the puppy to the airport upon your departure in a special puppy bag that will be stowed under your seat. All travel arrangements are organized and transport fees paid with the new adoptive family meeting you at your arriving airport. It’s easy and virtually hassle-free!

If you are interested in helping rescued potcakes, contact Jane at 231-1010, or mail@potcakeplace.com or visit potcakeplace.com.
